Abstract:   (2 Views)
For about a decade, the international system has witnessed the influence of the emerging BRICS powers in world affairs. The formation of the BRICS group, which is the pioneer of the new order in the world, has led this bloc to present itself as a key player in the international order. This research seeks to examine the political and economic role of the BRICS group in changing the structure of the global order. The main research question begins with the question: What role does the BRICS group play in changing the unipolar order from a political and economic perspective? To answer this question, the hypothesis is tested that the increasing global influence of the BRICS member states represents a redistribution of power in the international system and a transition from unipolar to multipolarity, which will potentially lead to a decline in the hegemonic role of the United States. The research findings show that the emergence of BRICS in 2001 was an economic concept, but over time it has evolved into an important political and economic bloc. The article seeks to analyze the group’s position towards Western hegemony and the group’s intended initiatives to restructure the world’s financial and governance systems. The findings show that BRICS is playing an effective political and economic role in challenging the US-led unipolar system. Considerable progress has been made in creating alternative institutions to the traditional financial institutions dominated by the West.
